No really, some Christians would want you to believe that
life with Jesus is easy but (spoiler alert), it’s not! Life is filled with
constant ups and downs. My English teacher once told me, “The only constant thing in life is change.” And the longer I live,
the longer her wise words ring true.
It would be nice if things were always amazing. I’m sure there were periods in your life when everything was great! You had an okish job, your family life was wonderful, and you knew where your money came from at the month’s end.
Then out of nowhere….BAAM! Something knocks you off your feet. Suddenly you’re unstable and a series of catastrophic events occur one after the other. It seems like you can’t catch a break. Then you wonder, has God abandoned me? Has he forgotten to take care of me?
The enemy’s ultimate plan is to make us abandon God. He wants us to give up on our Christian journey; to stop praying and reading our Bibles. It’s important to expect this temptation. We know the enemy is going to attack us, that’s why God instructs us to put on His armour, as described in Ephesians 6:14-17.
When you are constantly under spiritual attack, you may be tempted to question your faith in God. You may ask yourself “Why am I a Christian anyway?” Remember the promises of God; remember the fundamental truths of the gospel:
I am a sinner
God loves me
God is willing to give me life eternal
Sometimes we need to ask God for a revival of faith. The difference between a believer and a non-believer is that the believer has a hope that God will work out everything for their good (Romans 8:28) while the non-believer has no hope.
God has promised that He will never leave you. Even when He seems far off, He is always there with a plan to see you through even when your life is a mess. The question is, do you trust Him?
“And
the LORD, he it is that doth go
before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
4 Powerful Truths to Remember When You Feel Forgotten by God
1. He has come through in the past
“Declaring
the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the
things that are not yet
done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: “ Isaiah 46:10
One of the truths that the Bible can stand firmly upon, is its prophetic knowledge. Within the Bible we can see God predict the future time and time again.
Books like Daniel and Revelation are packed with prophetic information that shows God’s knowledge about the present, the past, and the future.
Therefore, if God
promises a brighter future, if He promises that He is going to work out all
things for your good in the end, don’t you think you can trust His word?
When we feel forgotten and abandoned by God, we must remember His promise for a better tomorrow. Hold fast to His promises with faith and He will see you through.
2. God’s timing is different from our timing
“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11
There are so many things in my life that I wanted at a particular time and never received. Only later on I discovered that had I gotten what I wanted when I wanted it, it probably would have turned out badly. All that to say, God’s timing is perfect.
We can trust in His timing to provide the things we need when we need them most. Through trials and tribulations of life, He moulds and shapes our character to become more like Christ. There is a reason for the season of waiting.
God has not abandoned you, and your prayers are not going unheard, but rather through this trial, God is strengthening your faith.
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
Romans 10:13
Whenever you feel abandoned or forgotten by God, remember this: God always has a plan. Even in the midst of struggle, God is working in the background to protect and provide for you.
God is willing to grant us the good things we need. He already knows exactly what we want before we ask for it. But how often do we not want what God has in store for us?
When we encounter a situation that is overbearing, we must humble and
surrender our will to the Father, who already has a plan of escape waiting.
4. God has the victory in the end
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
Lastly, God will have victory in the end. It’s important to hold onto God’s promises when we feel abandoned or forgotten. Even though we may feel alone, the truth is that God will never leave us, even if we abandon our faith.
The Holy Spirit is constantly at work in our lives, trying to help us with our everyday decisions. You know who wins in the end, even if the devil seems to be winning in your life right now.
God has a habit of using our brokenness to bring victory into our lives. But we must be willing to surrender and trust in Him, even when He seems far away.
Prayer for Today:
Dear Heavenly
Father,
I don’t know what you’re doing. And I feel really abandoned. Life isn’t what it’s supposed to be and I’m discouraged. OH Lord, I’m asking you to strengthen my faith in the midst of these trials. Wrap me in your arms and never let me go. Please help me to hold onto your promises.
Amen.
