How to Know If You’re Under Spiritual Attack

Isaiah 54:17

Are you under spiritual attack?

How do you know?

When we make a decision to follow Christ, we become a target for the enemy’s attacks. We are especially attacked when we are actively following the will of God. So…be prepared.

There is a behind-the-scenes war raging for your mind every day. Every day the enemy sends out temptations, trying to make us choose his side and abandon God.

It is the little choices that build our character. You can decide to let your anger get the best of you by shouting at your co-worker or if you decide it would be best to answer softly and show kindness instead of hate.

It’s important as Christians to remember that we are wrestling ‘not against flesh and blood but against principalities against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places’ Ephesians 6:13.

Therefore your co-worker is not the enemy, Satan is.

A season of spiritual attack

There is a trend within the body of Christ that spiritual attack is only for a season. But the enemy attacks us all of the time! Therefore it is important to remain connected to Christ; putting on the whole armor of God and trusting in Him to win our battles.

There are various ways in which the enemy attacks our faith. A season of spiritual attack usually refers to a period in which temptations are plentiful or everything just seems to be falling apart. The enemy may attack:

  • Your health
  • Your family
  • Your finances
  •  Your marriage
  • Your education
  • Your job

And many other parts of your life. The enemy focuses on destroying a particular part of your life and wants you to give up on your Christian journey.

It’s important to note as well, that sometimes we don’t realize we’re under spiritual attack because the enemy has lulled us into spiritual slumber (How to know if you’re spiritually asleep). If we cease to walk the Christian journey actively, the enemy’s attacks are not going to be as noticeable.

What to do during a season of spiritual attack

Here’s the thing, the enemy isn’t going to stop trying to defeat you and you cannot defeat him…..by yourself. We MUST rely on the power of Christ to defeat Satan. There is no other way.

When we are being feverously attacked we must pray harder, spend more time with God and commit our thoughts and actions to Him.

So…here are 7 verses you can pray when you’re under spiritual attack:

1. No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. Isaiah 54:17

This is a promise that nothing the enemy does will prosper. This means that these attacks or temptations will not take root in our lives. They are not permanent.

2. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:13

In order to defeat the enemy we must arm ourselves with the tools mentioned in Ephesians 6. When we put on the entire armor of God there is no way Satan’s attacks with shake our faith.

3. (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 2 Corinthians 10:4

Are there strong holds in your life? The enemy places people and things around us to keep us trapped in sin and defeat. But when we use the spiritual weapons that God has provided for us, we can tear down any strong hold that Satan has placed in our lives.

 4. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  2 Corinthians 12:9

When we are weak and tired, Christ has promised that He will be our strength. We do not have to carry the burdens of spiritual attacks on our own.

5. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31

God has promised to take care of us. He will not leave us alone to fight the enemy’s attacks. Whether we’re under spiritual attack or not, our job is to trust in God’s timing and believe that God will see us through.

6. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.  2 Thessalonians 3:3

The whole point of Satan’s attacks is to get us to mistrust God. He wants us to forget the promises laid before us in the Bible and blame God for everything that has gone wrong. When we forget the faithfulness of the Lord, the enemy has won. But once we hold onto the gift of salvation and the promise of life eternal the enemy’s attacks will not shake our faith.

7. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Lastly, God never says that bad things won’t happen to us, in fact, Christ proclaims that God sends rain on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45).

God promises us that throughout the storms and spiritual attacks that are sent to move our faith, He will provide a way for us to not be shaken (1Corinthians 10:13).

The only way to not be moved by an attack from the enemy is to hold onto the righteousness of Christ. No matter what happens we can be sure that God is in the background working out things for our good.

Prayer for Today:

Dear Heavenly Father,

This battle seems so intense. Sometimes I feel so defeated and discouraged. I know that the enemy won’t give up but I am not willing to let him win. Arm me with your weapons of warfare oh Lord. Give me the patience and help me to continue placing my trust in your promises. Thank you for covering me with your blood. Thank you for protecting me.

Amen.
