5 Warning Signs That You’re Drifting Away From God
1 Peter 5:8
The most important thing in a Christian’s life is his/her relationship with God. No relationship, no Christianity. Therefore, if we claim to be a Christian when don’t actually know Christ, then we’d be taking His name in vain and all of the efforts will be for nought.
Once you’ve made a decision to commit your life to Christ, you must work on developing a relationship with Him through prayer and Bible study. By actively making an effort to communicate with God, you will become more like Christ each day.
However, if you neglect your relationship with God and allow secret sins to slip in, you are at risk of drifting away from God. The enemy doesn’t want to see us remain connected to Christ, therefore, he is going to try every possible tactic to get you to abandon your faith.

If you are aware of the signs that you might be drifting away from God then it’s possible that you can quickly return to God before you completely slip away.
Here are 5 Signs That You’re Drifting Away From God
1. You don’t pray anymore
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but
the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41
The first sign that you’re drifting is you neglect actual communication with your Heavenly Father. The moment you begin to neglect spending one on one time with God in personal devotion is the moment you begin to drift away from God.
For many of us, life just happens and we find ourselves getting caught up in the everyday trials of life, however, when we spot this first sign it’s important to stop, sit, be still and take some time to pray.

2. You don’t make time to read/study the Bible
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
When was the last time you picked up your Bible? Was it last week at church? A sign that you may be drifting away from God is if you neglect personal Bible study/reading.
The main way God communicates with us is by His word. He gives us instructions and confirms our convictions by the Bible. If we neglect the reading of the Bible, we are essentially neglecting to listen to God’s voice.
3. You don’t spend much time fellowshipping with other believers
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
You find yourself being bored with church or church-related activities. You once enjoyed meeting with fellow Christians and spending long hours discussing God’s word but now you rather just sit at home and watch your favorite movie.
God created a body of believers to uplift and encourage one another when we interact with other Christians it helps to strengthen our faith. Maybe it’s time to get up off that couch, dust off your favourite dress and head to church.
4. The sins that used to bother you don’t bother you as much anymore
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,” Hebrews 12:1
We live in a world where the temptation to sin is always before us. As Christians, we must learn to control our thoughts and our actions so we keep on the straight and narrow path.
However, when we begin to drift away from God, the sin that was once dreadful to us somehow doesn’t seem to look that bad anymore. We give into ‘small’ temptations and a little bit by little bit we fall headfirst into the enemy’s trap all the while making excuses for our behaviour.
5. The gospel doesn’t affect you as much anymore
“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.” Hebrews 2:1
Have you ever sat at church and wondered why you were there? The gospel flame that once got you on fire for Christ has now died out and you feel rather lukewarm.
You continue with your everyday Christian life because you know that’s what you’re supposed to do but you haven’t shared the good news of Christ in months. You have spiritually fallen asleep and you are drifting away from God.
But there’s hope
The truth is that at some point in your Christian journey, you will feel yourself drifting away from God. Life gets hectic and spending an hour reading your Bible may seem impossible.
The important thing to remember is that you can always come back to God, no matter how far you think you’ve gone. Just as in the story with the prodigal son, your Heavenly Father is waiting with open arms to receive you again.
Sometimes it takes a bit of determination to maintain your relationship with God but when you recognize the signs and identify the enemy’s attacks on your life, it’s important to take action.
By returning to God with a humble heart and a willing spirit we can regain our faith and begin to rebuild a solid foundation on Jesus Christ.
Prayer For Today:
Dear Heavenly Father,
I don’t want to drift away from you. I know that a life lived with you is a life worth living. Turn my heart back to you Oh Lord. Give me a spirit of discernment to see the enemy’s attacks on my faith. I praise you for your patience with me and your mercy.
Amen.
