How to Trust in God’s Timing

Isaiah 40:31

During my very short time on this earth I’ve learned one thing for sure; never doubt God’s timing.

From the rising of the sun till the going down of the day God never makes mistakes and His timing is always accurate. He will show up when it’s the right time and opportunities present themselves exactly when you need them the most.

God’s timing is everything

There was a point in my life when everything was going wrong at the same time. I had no idea what God was doing and my life was literally a hot mess. I was always sick and I had an abusive partner who was a tyrant to my family. I felt like God was telling me it was time to move, run away from the relationship, and go live in another part of the country.

Little by little I began to pack my things, mentally deciding which items I was going to take and which items I would leave. The problem was I had no idea how I was going to make it on my own because the salary I was working for at the time wouldn’t have been able to sustain me if I had to pay rent.

Increased salaries at my job were promised for years now but were not fulfilled. And a year prior, a promotion I knew that was meant for me was given to someone else. As I said, my life and my finances were in a mess but I knew I had to trust God even though I didn’t know what to do.

How I learned to trust in God's timing

The tipping point

My abusive partner was becoming increasingly violent and the tipping point came when he verbally and physically assaulted my father. I was devastated by the whole event; I knew I had to get out of there. That he would keep terrorizing my family once I was around them. I knew I had to run.

I tell you no lie! The same week that event took place, I found out that the person who had gotten the promotion over me was leaving and I was now being offered her job (with her salary of course).

The moment I left my family home and began renting an apartment was the same month the promised salary increase of 40% was given to all staff members. I was able to find and rent an apartment far away from my stalker ex-boyfriend, get a restraining order and pay my bills comfortably.

God was in control

I didn’t know how miraculous it was then, but looking back on it now I see that God’s timing was absolutely precise. He was in control of the entire situation even though I was an anxious mess.

When faced with a troubling situation the enemy tempts us into becoming stressed because we feel out of control. Life is falling apart around us and we can’t seem to pick up the pieces. But God isn’t asking us to be in complete control; rather He is asking us to completely hand control over to Him by trusting in His promises.

He knows exactly what we need. He knows all our heart’s desires. He’s aware of your situation and He wants to provide the best for you, but He is going to do it in His timing.

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Psalm 23:1
Psalm 23:1

That husband/wife you’ve been waiting for.

That job you need.

That house/apartment you want.

God knows about it and He’s putting things in place for you.

Do you trust Him?

As the old Christian hymn goes:

“’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word
Just to rest upon His promise,
Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”

How much of your life are you willing to trust God with? Is it all of your life or just some areas? Trusting in God means that we are willing to follow His will for our lives and therefore have total faith that He will do what’s best for us; even if we don’t like it.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28

If we have faith that God’s plan and purpose for our lives are perfect, then when we find ourselves in seasons of waiting we can still have confidence that God IS going to come through for us, according to His will.

God knows, God cares, God is working

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:19

Even when it looks like it’s going to take forever, there is a reason for the wait. God is making everything perfect in His time (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Slowly but surely God is moulding your character so that when the time comes, you will be strong enough to face the challenges of the road ahead.

I get it, it’s difficult to trust God when you’re life is a mess. It’s hard to wait on God’s timing as you watch the clock of your life ticking by and as things become increasingly difficult/complicated. But I want to admonish you today, that God has not forsaken you.

Trust in His timing and ask Him for the peace of mind to be patient. He is working in your life and all of His promises WILL be fulfilled at the right time.

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31

Prayer for Today:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Provide me with patience. Humble my heart. Grow my character. And calm my troubled mind as I wait on your timing.

Amen.
