7 Signs God is asking you to step out in faith

Hebrews 11:1

Human beings are masters of the senses. We trust what we can feel, hear, taste, smell and most importantly see. Usually, it is difficult for us to believe in something that we cannot prove with our senses. That’s why so many people don’t believe that God exists because they can’t ‘see’ him with their eyes.

We Christians are asked to have faith in the impossible (the just shall live by faith); to believe in a God that can literally move mountains if we ask Him to and to make the blind see. But sometimes it’s difficult to trust God when we sense that He’s pulling us in a particular direction. How exactly do you know that God is asking you to step out in faith?

Faith in Action

Our devotional text for today states:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11:1

We are all a ‘work in progress’. When we surrender our lives to Christ, He begins a transforming work in our lives and we will see his hand moving and shifting things towards his divine will. A big part of fulfilling God’s plan for your life is trust and faith.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Hebrews 11:6

It is impossible to please God without faith because without faith it is impossible to believe in God in the first place. Faith is seeing as God sees; putting on his glasses.

Faith is so essential to the Christian journey that without it, all our efforts to do good will be in vain.

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:20

Therefore, stepping out in faith means that we make decisions based on what we believe God is going to do, not based on our physical senses (hearing, or sight).

God may be telling you to go in a particular direction but if you are not conscious of the signs, you can easily miss it. Staying connected to God daily is paramount, so we will be able to discern the voice of God and know exactly what he wants us to do.

Here are 7 signs that God is asking you to step out in faith today:

7 Sighs God is Asking you to Step Out in Faith-allaccordingtoplann.com

1. When you know that obedience requires trust

Is there a sudden feeling of urgency to be obedient to God’s will? The first step to faith in God is trust. When we decide to be obedient to God’s will, we are actually trusting that God will see us through.

Sometimes God wants us to take the next step and just be obedient without knowing what the outcome will be. It may be switching careers, leaving a relationship or moving to another country, no matter what it is there is a reason why God is calling you to do this thing now and not later.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

Proverbs 3:5

2. An opportunity continuously presents itself

God knows that we are stubborn. He knows that sometimes, it takes two or three chances for us to see that He is calling us to do something. We may plan things out for our lives but God also has a plan for your life, and sometimes our plans don’t match God’s plans.

When God asks you to step out in faith, he provides the means to do so. He provides us with opportunities to do His will. So is there a job person or situation you’ve been ignoring? Maybe it’s time to take a second look.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Proverbs 3:6

3. When you know that surrender is necessary

Trust in God may also mean that surrender to God is necessary. It may be that you have to give up on a plan, a hope or a dream to fulfil God’s will for your life. This may not be easy.

God never promised that everything would be smooth sailing, but He won’t guide you somewhere and then leave you there. If He wants you to surrender or give up something, chances are that he has greater/better things in store for you.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

1 Corinthains 2:9

4. You know that God has been equipping you for this task

God does not call the qualified He qualifies the called. There are so many examples in the Bible where God’s people were seemingly ‘unqualified’ for a particular task but they were placed in high positions anyway. Joseph, Daniel, Esther, Paul, and the list goes on and on.

God has placed a purpose on your life, therefore he will or has been equipping you for that purpose. He knows what He’s doing. You may or may not know what your talents are, but God may be calling on you to use the gift that he has already placed inside of you to do His will.

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Jeremiah 1:5

5. You keep being led back to the same Bible verses

Whenever you want to discover God’s plan for your life, a good idea is to spend some time in prayer, devotion and even fasting. Be still and listen. The Holy Spirit will guide you where he wants you to be.

Stepping out in faith is not easy so you want to be sure that you’re decisions are in line with God’s plans. By spending time reading the Bible, God may lead you to scripture that points you in the direction he wants you to go.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

6. When things seem to be going wrong

There is a possibility that God is asking you to step out in faith and do something that you ABSOLUTELY don’t want to do. Chances are that you’ve already made up your mind to disobey God, and then just face the consequences afterwards.

It’s true, that having faith in God to make the right decision may be quite challenging. But as I said before, we humans are quite stubborn. God may be causing roadblocks in your way because He wants you to go in another direction. When you notice that things are continuously going awry in a particular area in your life, stop and ask God if He wants you to go another way.

“Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.”

Psalm 119:133

7. It requires total dependence on him, and not yourself

Yes, what God wants you to do, doesn’t seem to make any sense.

Why leave this job now, why start this business, why move to another church?

You may have all of these questions swirling around in your head. You may wonder how you’re going to pay the bills or what’s going to happen to your family if you make this decision.

Maybe it’s difficult to step out in faith because you can’t see the entire plan, but God is asking you just to trust Him with your next step; one decision at a time. He has promised not to forsake us, therefore we can trust Him to take care of us. No matter what the situation is, it is better to depend on God because we know that His outcome will be the best.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 6:33
Matthew 6:33

By stepping out in faith we are trusting God with the outcome. Are you willing to trust God with your future today?

Prayer for Today:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Present clearly in front of my mind exactly what you want me to do. I am lost oh Lord but you have promised to guide my way. I place my life in your hands, give me the faith of Daniel and help me to make the decisions that are pleasing in your sight.

Amen.
