How to commit to the Lord, even during hard times
Psalms 37:5
Everyone has tough times; the death of a loved one, failing an important exam or even financial problems. How do we learn to trust God during the hard times? Sometimes it may seem as if God isn’t near to us when we have trouble, but the exact opposite is true. The question is, how do we commit to the Lord, even during tough times?
During hard times, it’s very easy to blame God for what has happened. Why would God allow this to happen? His ways are not our ways and we can rest assured that His plan will work out for our good in the long run.

What To Do When You Feel Like Giving Up
Our devotional text today says “Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” That’s a powerful promise! When we commit to the Lord, whatever we desire of Him, He shall bring it to pass. No matter what it is when we go to our Heavenly Father He will make the impossible, possible; once it is by His will.

So how do we do it? How do we surrender to Christ, even when we don’t feel like it?
Here are the three basic steps:
- It all begins with faith. God’s word is sure; whatever He has promised will come to pass without a doubt. We can hold fast to God’s promises because He said: “ I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” –Hebrews 13:5
- Then we must trust in God’s timing. A lot of times God gives us what we asked for but not when we want it. He knows best and his timing is always perfect.
- Lastly, we can ask God for peace of mind. We know that He will work things out and that tough times don’t last. We have a God who is looking after us.
It may be difficult to have peace in times of trouble, you may not be able to sleep at night. But I can attest to God’s steady arms; He held me tight and He never let me go. At times I thought I might go crazy or just give up on God but He never gave up on me.
When we decide to commit to the Lord and trust in His way, He will make our way perfect. “It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.”-Psalm 18:32. Committing to the Lord means that we do His will regardless of how we feel. This may take a lot of time praying and asking God for strength but, in the end, we know that He will work things out for our good.

Prayer for Today:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Help me to hold onto you even during the difficult times in my life. I know that you have a plan and you are working on it. Help me to have faith in your wisdom, trust your timing and develop a peaceful mind.
Amen.
